Review by Kiyomi for Dr. Brown’s BPA Free Polypropylene Natural Flow Wide Neck Bottle, 8 oz – 3-Pack

I had been exclusively breastfeeding my baby and wanted to introduce a bottle during one nighttime feeding so my husband could help. Our pediatrician said it would be okay to start the bottle when she was 3 weeks old. So I used my medela advanced breastpump to pump milk and then my husband would feed our baby girl the pumped milk using the medela bottles we purchased to go along with the pump. She ate from these bottles fine but to my horrow slowly started to have problems latching on! Finally we realised it must be the bottles and stopped using them. We were prepared to buy whatever bottles we could find that wouldn’t cause nipple confusion as the medela ones had. After a couple days of getting her to latch on again we tried the Dr. Brown’s wide-neck natural flow since we had received these as a shower gift and after I read a few reviews online about them not causing nipple confusion. I think they actually helped IMPROVE her breastfeeding suck and latch on, which for a young (3 week old) breastfeeding baby is VERY important! She feeds stronger and remains feeding for a full feeding every time even after using the bottle for a feeding. I may never use another bottle! These are fantastic!! I hope this review helps Any nursing mothers out there ready to introduce a bottle but not give up on nursing. These bottles are wonderful!

I’ve been using these wide bottles for 3 months. My baby usually first gets a mouthful of the wide base of the nipple, but then his lips slip to the narrow part of the nipple after a few sucking. A lactation consultant suggested I get the STANDARD bottle instead of the WIDE bottle. The reason is sucking on the tip of the nipple promotes the habit for a shallow latch at the breast. So I bought a few Dr. Brown standard bottles and use them along with the wide bottles that I already have. On the standard bottles my baby is able to suck on the whole nipple and get a better seal, thus swallowing less air. My baby is now 3 months old and he prefers the standard bottle to the wide bottle, so we are switching exclusively to the standard ones.

I decided to try Dr. Brown’s bottles with my baby since my previous baby had gas issues. For the first 5 months my baby did have gas and I had to use gas drops.(I believe its because I use powder formula. The country I’m living in only has powder. My first 2 babies used concentrated formula & had no gas.) If I hadn’t used Dr. Brown’s however her gas would have been worse. I know this because at 4 months, when I needed to change the nipples, I opted to change to another popular brand. (Because I live overseas I would have had to order them on-line and wait.) With the new bottles her gas became worse. I decided to order them and I’m glad I did because when I started using them there was definetly an improvement Now at 6 months she is gas free, but only because I;m using these bottles! I recommend these bottles to everyone!

With our first baby, we used Avent (in 2001, so they were the old BPA ones). We quite liked the wide mouth Avent, the feel, everything except rare leaks and sure, our baby had gas half the time. Mylicon drops didn’t work so much as good old fashioned burp assistance (rubbing back, bicycling legs, etc.).
Fast forward nearly nine years…there are a TON more wide mouth type of bottles. We chose Dr. Brown’s and couldn’t be HAPPIER about it. Here we are, six months out from birth, and our baby has had the smoothest ride, eating-wise. These bottles are an A+++ in terms of gas reduction. Since he was born, our baby would make one tiny burp after eating and that’s it. Done. NO gas issues, no tummy issues, no screaming in pain…these bottles are worth every cent.
IF you don’t have a dishwasher, think twice: these would be a pain to clean, day in and day out (then again, a gassy baby is a bear to deal with day in, day out). IF you have a dishwasher, then you’re all set. Never understand the whining about cleaning these — the dishwasher does a perfect job. They DO have extra parts that might take up an extra row on top, but that’s about it in terms of the extra two parts these bottles have.
Advice to new parents would be to forget about 4 ounce in ANY size bottle. Baby will be scarfing down more than that quicker than you think, and you’re left with a bunch of bottles you can’t use. Total waste o’ money. Just go with the 8 ounce right from the beginning and you won’t have to replace bottles.

I didnt believe by changing bottles my daughter would be spitting up less and less gassy but these bottlesprovided me with just that. She does not take in as much gas as she did with traditional bottles and so does not have those expolosive burps that would sometimes result in her throwing up.
Very happy i have changed to these and i just ordered 3 more. I would say, give them a try and see for yourself.
