First of all, this swing is safe and sturdy and will accomodate our son as he grows. Second – it is great for newborns since it will recline to a size-appropriate position. Third – it is attractive and has great sound for such a small box and plays a wide variety of sounds. It runs on batteries (I would not want a cord to an electric outlet for safety reasons anyway), but if you are a smart parent you will invest in a good battery recharger, rechargeable batteries and a back up set for all the toys that run on batteries anyway. This swing is a lifesaver because it keeps the baby in motion without you having to rock in a rocking chair, so you have time to do other things (like wash the endless bottles). My 8-week old son adores the swing so much he actually sleeps for 2-3 hours in it! Actually holds my newborn comfortably, ‘like a hug’ and has three other positions that my daughter can grow into. She was 8lbs when born, so I was happy that the swing will hold up to 30lbs or so. The music selection is good, but it is a tiny fuzzy. The nature sounds are hard to distinguish. The swing was very simple to put together. My advice is to NOT put the tray on when you first put the swing together, and wait until you need it. It is in the way when putting a new baby in and it is not as simple to open as the ad states it is. The swing has a lot of really convenient features such as the one handed reclining feature, the buttons that fold the swing in so it is easily moved, the extra massive and comfy seat (will get longer use) and the wide array of music and nature sounds. We have gotten really good battery milage out of this as well! Our son was in the swing for probably 28 hours over the last two weeks, and we have not had to change the batteries yet! At first it seemed like the swing was wonderful my grandaughter loved it , but one day I was watching her and she was swinging in the swing and i noticed that it had stopped swinging and all the lights were still lit up. I went to see why it stopped and the side with the motor was hot as fire the plastic was nearly to the melting point. Then I noticed the smell of wires buring. I took my grandaughet out imideatly and unpluged the swing. If I had not been in the room the swing would have caught fire and burned my grandaughter serverly!!! I contacted the company and they stated that they no longer make the swing anymore excpt for the one on this website. SO THIS IS A WARNING!!! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS SWING!!! We had the Fisher Price Papasan with our first 2 children and loved it, but that was many years ago. We just purchased this swing this day and the motor is sooo loud! We are not sure if maybe we got a bad one or not as our other papasans were not this loud. That being said, I do love the light show. The straps are actually too short and barely fit around my 3 month now to buckle her. She appears to like the cradle aspect though and it’s nice that it can go in 3 directions.
